Malware removal: Malwarebytes' Anti-malware check out trolly | Amazon anti-spyware shop |
Anti-spyware, anti-virus, and malware removal software tools should be the first programs that you load on a new P.C. before you venture out into the Internet. One of the biggest curses to users of computers and the Internet is the unending deluge of spyware, trojans, viruses, browser hijacks, key loggers, spam, and malware that is aimed at attacking your computer and taking control of it for financial gain.
From the illegal attempts to find out your financial records, banking details and your identity for use in fraud by persons unknown, or to big high street names, brands and advertising agents intent on finding out about you surfing habits so they can send their adverts, products, pop ups and spam that they have been paid for and at the same time leaving your P.C. running slow, full of malware and having to spend time and money fixing and repairing your machine. Advertising is big business and with it comes big money and sometimes practises which at best can be described as misleading and at worst it is outright fraud.
There is nothing wrong with legal advertising where it is placed on a site and if you are interested you follow make your choice. I have adverts on my site to cover bills just like all most any other site you visit but you have to physically choose an advert on this site and take it as far as you want. What is wrong is where you visit a site and software is loaded on to your computer without you knowing, without your permission or if you are interested they cunningly hide third party software in a long winded EULA that you have to agree to and virtually give them permission to do what they want, and when ever they want and you have no legal rights what so ever.
Make no mistake about it, these type of people don't give two hoots about you as long as they can push their agenda on to your machine and reap the rewards whilst leaving you to pick up the pieces. Poorly made software that they hoist on to on your machine without your permission or are cunningly hidden so that it loads when you visit a site leaves your machine running slowly, crashing suddenly or programs acting strangely and in the worst cases the dreaded blue screen of death and denial of service.
Well it's time to fight back. There are lots of thing you can do and in a lot of cases it won't cost you any money other than sending a donation if you want to and a little of your time. There are people out there who are dedicated to the fight against the baddies and freely give their time up to fix and repair the damage when your computer is infected.
I have put together a list of useful information and links to reputable anti-spyware and software that you can trust. You can never be 100% free from infection but you can give yourself a fighting chance. The information is from varied sources freely available in the public domain, my own experiences of dealing with malware and my own personal opinion. I hope they give you some ideas and help.
Some of the links are to dedicated sites that are not for profit and gain no money from your visit to their sites (on the other hand they will accept a donation to cover running costs if you want to) and are run by a group of people who hate to admit defeat and ask you to reformat your hard drive when the infections overrun your machine and some are for paid sites who provide their software for a fee. Many of the paid software sites do have trial periods so you can evaluate the software and some even have free versions but have certain restrictions
Some software is freely available and some is offered free with the option to pay for an upgrade to a better version (not always the case as some software is updated and upgraded without charge). Programs like 'Spywareblaster & Spywareguard, Spybot Search&Destroy and CCleaner are free, very good and updated without charge.
Information that I have read from other sources recommend that whilst surfing the Internet you should protect yourself with a minimum of:-
I wish I could remember how many hours I have spent making sure that my computer does not get infected. The truth is I can't remember and sometimes It makes you think is it really worth it. Sadly it is because the Internet has become a whole new platform for people intent on making money by trying to access your computer and personal details.
It is a game of catch up and every day the bad boys find new ways to attack your system. Only then can the various software houses that specialize in defeating the threats can swing in to action and provide the necessary solution to the latest threat.
One day the powers that be in our respective countries will finally wake up to the fact and put in place the proper sanctions to deal with the perpetrators and hand out sentences that reflect the crime.
Punishment by long sentences in prison does not always prevent crime but it might deter the smaller fish in the pond. Dealing with the big players is going to take some serious changes in the laws and also the will to take them on.
Until that happens the general public will have to take their own measures to protect their privacy and accept the unnecessary inconvenience in wasted time and money to try and ensure the best protection possible is used and up to date.
